The Garfunkel is an asymmetrical good wave / barrel board designed for waves in the chest high to overhead range, that still has the ability to get radical when on rail. Logan Rauhut came to me looking for an asymmetric “good wave” board for an upcoming California fall and winter full of Santa Ana offshore winds and consistent tubes around town, and this is what we came up with.
The Garfunkel features a beveled rail on the toe side to give the board the ability to come off of the bottom very quick with tons of control and sensitivity. The single concave from nose to tail creates an effect where the rocker in the center of the board becomes straighter which gives the board tons of speed going down the line, but when put on rail, gives it the ability to turn like a board with much more center rocker. The heel side of the board is more forgiving in all aspects of the design when compared to the toe side. The shorter, slightly thicker, heel side rail makes the board easier to control on not only the frontside hack, but also the backside bottom turn.
When ordering the Garfunkel, order the same length or an inch or two longer than your standard shortboard, and anywhere from 1/4” to 1/2” narrower.
Both sides of the board work in conjunction with each other to provide an equal amount of function when going either left or right.
